Providence University Hosts Paraguay's Universidad Nacional de Itapúa President to Strengthen International Academic Cooperation

To promote international academic exchange and cooperation, Providence University welcomed Dr. Hermenegildo Cohene Velázquez, the President of the National University of Itapúa in Paraguay, on November 25, 2025. This historic visit marks Providence University’s ongoing efforts in internationalization and academic collaboration, aiming to strengthen ties with top academic institutions worldwide and expand the university’s influence in the global academic community.

During the visit, Providence University and the National University of Itapúa officially signed a cooperation agreement. This agreement will foster student and faculty exchanges between the two universities. Through these collaborations, Providence University’s faculty and students will have more opportunities to engage in international academic activities and further expand the scope of cross-national cooperation

Since 2014, the Department of Spanish at Providence University has been continuously developing overseas internship opportunities. The university has established solid partnerships with enterprises in Spanish-speaking countries and regions, offering students the chance to intern in countries such as Paraguay, Spain, Mexico, Nicaragua, Colombia, and Argentina. These experiences not only help students deepen their understanding of Spanish-speaking countries but also enhance their professional skills and global perspective. From 2014 to 2019, students from the Department of Spanish interned in Paraguay and developed close ties with local businesses.

Additionally, in 2021 and 2025, students from the Department of Spanish successfully participated in the International Cooperation and Development Fund’s program, enabling them to intern in Paraguay. Currently, one Spanish major is interning in Asunción, the capital of Paraguay, laying a solid foundation for their future career development.

Providence University will continue to deepen its cooperation with international academic institutions and provide students with more opportunities for international learning and development, strengthening the university’s position in the global academic field and cultivating future leaders with a global perspective.
